Prototypes of the Daimler Ferret Armoured Scout car were completed as long ago as 1949, with over 4,400 vehicles completed between 1952 and 1971.
It saw action during the Malay conflict in the 1950's and were based in Cyprus as part of the British military presence there. It last active role with the Bristish in the First Gulf War of 1991.
The Ferret is normally fitted with a turret housing the 7.62mm machine gun, but this severely limits access for the drive. The driving position is interesting, with a reverse angled steering wheel to allow a lower profiled vehicle and a pre-select gear shift system.
It was extensively exported and was used by Bahrain, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Malawi, Malyasia, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Sundan - some of whom still use the Ferret to this day!
