The FV620 Alvis Stalwart entered service with the British Army in 1966, and was designed as a private venture by Alvis to resupply units in central Europe. To aid in this it was given amphibious capabilities via its twin Dowty waterjet units with vectored thrust steering. This soon proved unreliable and was de-activated. It remained in service until the mid-1980's when advances in helicopter design rendered it obsolete.
The Stalwart, like the Saracen with which it shares many components, has permanent 6 wheel drive with 4 wheel steering, although there is a limited slip defferential between either side to reduce on-road wear and wind up problems that the Saracen suffered from. This differential can be locked to give incredible off-road capability.
