The ZIL-131 6x6 Nuclear Decontamination Vehicle is a variant of the standard ZIL-131 truck that has been in production since 1967 in what was then the Soviet Union. It is the military version of the civilian 4x4 ZIL-130 vehicle.
The nuclear decontamination equipment consists of a 2,500 ltr water tank and pump system, along with hoses, jets, lances, brushes etc - in fact everything you would need to decontaminate vehicles, aircraft and equipment in the event of fall-out from non-conventional warfare (Nuclear, Biological or Chemical).
The ZIL has enormous pulling power (it will even pull our 56 tonne Chieftain tank a short distance) and incredible off-road capability. Like many Russian vehicles it has a tyre inflation system which can be controlled from the cab to cope with varying terrain.
Fantastic Days' ZIL was found in East Germany, after the fall of the Soviet Union, with just 1700km on the clock.
